Being a boy mama.

| | ,

For a long time I’d convinced myself that I was bound to be a mum of girls. I grew up with my younger sister and surrounded by a lot of girls, when I got into a relationship with Mark the majority of his brothers had girls (with the occasional boy!) and there was a lot of girls on my side and so I just assumed when I got pregnant that I was having a girl.

That was until everyone started weighing in “you’re definitely pregnant with a boy” and at the time, I’d think how weird it was for someone who wasn’t actually pregnant to tell me what gender child I was having.

Then around 2 weeks before we were due to find out the gender, I had to most surreal dream that I’d given birth to the most beautiful baby boy and when I woke up the next morning, I knew everyone was right.

2 weeks later, and we were sitting having our private scan and within 30 seconds it was abundantly clear that our baby was definitely a little boy. Now don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t upset or anything like that (I know some people have their hearts set on a certain gender, but I was just happy my baby was healthy) but I started to wonder how was I ever going to bring up a boy?!

19 months down the line, and I can hand on heart say that I was made to be a boy mum, because I was made to be Graysons mum. I love raising my little boy, because he is just that – he’s a typical little boy. Then at the same time he’s so much more than just your typical little boy, he’s absolutely incredible.

Being a boy mum, is the most rewarding thing for me because I know that he’s going to grow up to be an amazing man because of Mark and I and that might sound big headed, but he’s already such a sensitive, kind and caring soul that I have no doubts he’ll be wonderful.

So if you find yourself pregnant with the opposite gender you were expecting, I’m excited for you because you’re in for a truly amazing experience! (On the other hand, if you guessed the gender right, bravo!)
