HelloFresh Review – amazing food, simplified

| |

We always struggle for meal ideas (and had seen companies such as HelloFresh before but dismissed them) – it’s partly my laziness (I cook what I know I can cook quickly with my eyes shut), and when I’m shopping, I find myself buying the same ingredients, without any real thought about what I’m going to do with them. We thought it was time to up our food game a bit, so with the help of HelloFresh, we took the plunge.

About HelloFresh

If you don’t already know, HelloFresh provides you with all the fresh, pre-portioned ingredients and simple to follow recipe cards you need to make delicious dinners delivered , straight to your door. No food waste, no struggling to find the right ingredients in the shop, just everything you need (and I mean, everything), all in one box.

Our box arrived on Saturday morning – we had a message from the courier to give us a time span, so we knew when it was coming. But if you’re not in, it doesn’t really matter – the ingredients (especially the meats) are well packaged, in a cooler bag with ice packs to keep them cool – so nothing will spoil if you’re not home to take the delivery.

We had three meals; Hoisin Chicken Stir Fry, Smokey Banger Pasta Bake and Thai-style Yellow Beef Meatball Curry.

Gracie is a bit too young to help with the cooking, but if you do have slightly older kids, then this is a great way to introduce them to recipes. The steps are clearly laid out on the recipe cards, and the instructions with images are simple and straightforward. Ash cooked two of the meals, and I cooked the third. Each meal was estimated between 25 and 45 minutes to make – that includes a bit of time for the prep (but you can go full-on Gordon Ramsey and multitask in the kitchen as the instructions let you know what you can get started whilst you do something else). If, like us, you enjoy cooking, but are also keen to just sit down and relax, then this is a great help.

The meals were delicious, personally I enjoyed the Hoisin Chicken Stir Fry more than the others, and Ashleigh loved the Smoky Banger Pasta Bake – but all meals were incredibly filling and tasty, and we had some spare for the next day, too. Grayson enjoyed the Pasta bake too – he’s getting much better with trying new foods, so this was a really enjoyable experience to let him try things that we wouldn’t normally cook. Not only a great way to get your kids trying new foods but when G is a bit older, we’ll get him involved in the cooking too (and the cleaning up, afterwards!)

Overall, HelloFresh is a great way to experience new flavour combinations – to create stunningly good meals for the family, and to minimise your food waste. It’ll also save you a trip to the supermarket, which at the moment, we’re all grateful for. You’ll learn how to cook new meals, and you’ll always have the recipe cards to fall back on if you wanted to recreate the meals. They also have Vegetarian and fish options, which add to the variety!
