This week, we take a turn to the dance side. A small post this week, because there isn’t much to say about this specific song, I just really like it, so here we go!
Basement Jaxx – My Turn
Many moons ago, I used to have a bit of a commute to work (more than now, which is just a short work from the bedroom, across the landing, and in to the office!). More often than not, I’d be a bit tipsy on the walk home because work was right next to several good pubs, and it would be rude not to join my colleagues for a beer, right?! At this stage in my life, I was very much in to Dance music, Dubstep, and so on. Listening to Annie Mac on a Friday night was the one thing I looked forward to every week more than anything (I mean, I still love Annie Mac, don’t get me wrong). This was peak Dubstep era for me, Magnetic Man, Benga, Caspa, Rusko. OH MY DAYS. Incredible (that’s a playlist on it’s own right there!)
Anyway, I think it was on her show that I first heard of artists such as A-Trak, Hot Chip, Skream etc, and from there, I started to make new playlists of recommended artists. I knew of Basement Jaxx from songs like “Romeo”, “Rendez Vu” and “Red Alert”, but this song was something I’d not heard until it popped up on a playlist – and it’s been a go-to for me ever since. Still sounds fresh now, considering it was released back in 2009.
For me, this song instantly brings back memories to a very fast paced walk to the train station after a few pints (the tempo of the song is great for walking)
I’ll try and chuck in some more dance songs in the coming weeks – it’s been very sentimentally based songs recently, so I’ll try to move away from that for a bit and hopefully chuck in some classics.
Like this song from Basement Jaxx? If so, check out Simian Mobile Disco, Hot Chip and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, to name but a few.

I remember this well and this musical era… but damn!! As if this track is 11yrs old 😱
Try not to think about it too much 😂😂😂
Try not to, it may hurt my head too much 😂.
