This week, it’s a song that I’ll never forget, and still makes me smile every time I listen to it – as this was our first dance at our wedding, so it’ll always have a special place for me – although I’m not going to share the original song with you (which is ace, by the way, by The Paper Kites), but the cover that we used as we much preferred it, by Mama Longlegs.
Bloom – Mama LongLegs
We went through quite a few songs to pick our first dance (who doesn’t, really?!). The one criteria we had is that we wanted a song that was special to us, and not some run-of-the-mill cliché wedding song. No disrespect to those of you who chose Adele or Ed Sheeran, but we wanted something different.
This was probably the toughest decision from all the wedding related choices we had to make – because Ashleigh and I are both very much in to our music, we had quite a few songs in mind, so finding one that we both thought fits was tough. We’re one of those couples that will always have music on in the house, no matter where we are or what we’re doing – it’s simply never silent!
We love the original Paper Kites version of this song – but the cover version by Mama Longlegs just has something special to it, and the moment we heard it, we both knew it was the one. Unfortunately, the DJ at the wedding absolutely messed it up and ended up skipping the song half way through, but in the grand scheme of things that could have gone wrong on the wedding day, this was the only (very minor!) glitch, in what was an absolutely perfect day.
In the morning when I wake
Bloom – The Paper Kites
And the sun is coming through
Oh, you fill my lungs with sweetness
And you fill my head with you

Another great tunes post Mark. Not my cup of tea music wise but it is right up Sarah’s Street. Heard this played a few times. It must hold so many memories for you both of that special day 😍
Cheers Eddie – Glad Sarah likes it 😉 It really does bring the memories flooding back 🙂
