I’ve never liked Christmas.
Don’t get me wrong, when I was a kid I’m sure I did but in more recent years I’ve never been a huge fan of Christmas. My family have never been HUGE on Christmas and due to a lot of different factors I just found it pretty disappointing.
I always found my birthdays that same, they were just disappointing. However, as I’ve gotten older I actually enjoy my birthdays more but Christmas has always been the same for me. I don’t hate it, I’m just impartial to it.
However, having a child changed all that. I still don’t love Christmas, but I love having a child at Christmas. I love watching his little face when he watches Christmas films, and sees the decorations and hears the music. I love that he now understands Christmas (as much as a 20 month old can) and I love talking to him about it.
Yes it’s stressful being a parent at Christmas and planning everything (my heart goes out to all you parents with more than 1 child, you da bomb) but seeing your child so happy and excited is second to none. As someone who called themselves a scrooge for a number of years, I would happily sing every Christmas song and watch the polar express 5 million times if it meant Grayson enjoying Christmas.
Christmas is magical for children and that’s where it will rub off onto you, watching him enjoy it and believing in santa.
It absolutely does, I can’t wait to see how much more he loves Christmas this year!
